On March 1st 2014, Paranormal EXP along with investigators; Rob, Jerry, Joe, Vicki, and Mike & Eric of OC Soul Searchers, investigated the Blandings and Hunt houses located in Malibu Creek State Park. Our group was granted special permission from the Park Ranger, who was also on-site during the investigation, making us the first paranormal investigators to investigate these properties.
The Blandings house was the dream house featured in the 1948 movie, “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House”, starring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy and Melvin Douglas. The current layout in the house is similar to what is seen in the movie, with some small remodeling changes. The home now currently serves as the Park Ranger main offices.
From the Park Ranger who works on the property: “There is a lot of activity inside this house, and recently… it has increased.”
(Paranormal Reports: Unexplained footsteps when no one is around, unexplained voices, scents of coffee or cigars, and lights that inexplicably turn on and off.)
Built in the 1920s by Willis P. Hunt, the Hunt House was intended to be a vacation home until it was sold in 1946 to 20th Century Fox and then purchased by the State of California in 1974. Willis P. Hunt had also gone on to purchase the surrounding land in a joint venture with several wealthy businessmen. This land would become the Malibu Creek State Park as it is known today. The Hunt House now serves as the Visitors Center and is free to the public during business hours. Many movies and TV shows filmed near the Hunt House such as the Swiss Family Robinson television series and several Tarzan movies. The 1977 TV series Roots, Planet of the Apes and the historic TV show M*A*S*H were also filmed on the property.
